W e l c o m e t o m y e x p e r i e n c e !
My name is Eva Gómez, I am from Spain (Seville) and I chose to do an EVS and become Czech Republic my home for 8 months.
Before doing the EVS program I didn’t have a clear idea of what being a volunteer meant, of what EVS was like. But when I had an opportunity I took it without thinking too much. I knew it was something unique to do once in your life, so I decided to go out of my country, my home and my comfort zone to explore new things.
Even though it was not the first time I lived abroad, I have done an Erasmus exchange program from University, it has also thought me new things about what is like to live in another country. I have immersed myself in the Czech culture, I have traveled, met people from all over Europe and helped my organisation (OKO) and their clients in every way possible.
Working at an organisation made me improve my skills (communication, teamwork, planning…) and to develop others I didn’t even knew I had, like being able to teach in schools and organise summer camps. It allows me to explore what I am good at and what can I improve for my future professional career.
EVS has thought me that is not only about helping others, but how all of us can help each other at the same time, learning from each other.
During this volunteering service I have met people from other countries and other cultures and thanks to that I have developed more consciousness about my country, my own culture and who I am. I found myself more part of Europe, because I have learnt that our differences are nothing compare to all our similarities.
